The Day I Discoved Lyon... Again

The sun has finally arrived in my little town and Mr phone tells me the weather will improve day by day :)
Last weekend I spent a very overcast day in Lyon and I must say it was fantastic !!!
We arrived and found a place to
park on the quay between a Bentley & Mercedes very bourgeois,
At Part Dieu we decided to travel with our lunch and went to the beautiful Woko restaurant, the food was rapidly at our table and my reluctant to try new things partner loved his dish.  www.woko.fr/

After being very well nourished we had a browse around the adjoining shopping centre Confluence ( confluence.fr ) this place amazed my little mind France is known for its boutiques and very individual buildings but rather this shopping centre takes France into the 21 siecle . Apple, H&M , Hugo Boss, Fnac all under one roof as well as too many others to name. Now I like good quality but also good value and both of which you'll find in this gem in Lyons business district big cities in France often incur big prices but,not putting down my local Vienne I would get a big bang for my buck Confluence compared to other places.

As somebody who likes a little bobo( Bourgeois-Bohemian) in my life we ventured across the pont to the very expensive district just to be there, as you do and to marvel at the shops like Cartier, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Kenzo very easy on the eye but not on the budget!

We finished the day by strolling along the quays back to our car where a beautiful barge style restaurant was welcoming customers aboard. Lyon has quite a few nice modern surprising gem which one can find each and every time you visit the city.

Halloween is here FINALLY

I'm always super excited this time of year Halloween has always and I mean always been my favourite holiday however, here in France it's not really celebrated to my dismay :(. I could not let this go by so I decided I'll organise a little dinner party/soiree this weekend and let our buddies here see how we celebrate across the water.
  • I love the idea of costumes but its a little much for the French so masks would be suitable for the occasion.
  • I have to buy a lot of cider perhaps try some of the new flavours
  • A couple of party games like dunking for apples (my other half found this hilarious when I told him)
  • As for food rustic food like pork , apple sauce, root veggies the lot .
  • Desert of course has to be every kind of sweet or candy you can buy or make , normally I make caramel squares .
  • My friends here usually play poker or tarot so we play on into the night .

Really wish I could decorate like this its Georgeous

Here's a recipie for a shot which for us adults can make it a very merry celebration :)

Best October Memory

About two years ago in Dublin I was staying at a friends place and a German girl who was staying there also  showed me this song. Such nostalgia for our bottles of 5.50eu Hardy's Chardonnay, making the best pasta ever and being quite hammered so forgetting the recipe :( Virginia I'll never forget the hilarious ad's you showed me as well ;-)

My most delicious Apple Crumble

Ingredients - Serves 4 to 6

(225g) flour - plain wholemeal
(100g) margarine
(50g) muscovado or soft brown sugar
(450g) baking apples

Half teaspoon cinnamon
Splash of vanilla
Crushed hazelnuts

Method

  • Wash, core and chop the apples into chunks. Put in a pan with 4 tablespoons of water and a little lemon juice and. Put on moderate heat and leave to stew for 5 minutes or so, stirring occasionally. The apple should be just starting to soften, not becoming a pulp. Add in the Vanilla & cinnamon
  • Mix flour and margarine with the fingertips until it is like the texture of breadcrumbs. Add the sugar and mix.
  • Put the cooked apples in a greased pie dish and sprinkle with a little more sugar. Cover with the crumble mixture. Top with hazelnuts
  • Bake in the oven at gas mark 5, 190°C, 375°F for 30 to 40 minutes, or until brown on top.(It should look a little like this)

This recipe can be used to make any sort of fruit crumble. For example rhubarb - just substitute the apples with 450g of washed and chopped rhubarb for every 4 people and treat it in exactly the same way. Other varieties could include blackcurrent, blueberry, blackberry and apple, almost anything you like really.
